Exciting news out of Cupertino today.

The new Apple Watch Series Three.

Today at the new Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, Apple announced the release of the Apple Watch Series Three, marking the largest leap forward yet for the wearable technology.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • Cellular connectivity has been added, allowing you to take calls anywhere by accessing LTE directly instead of through Bluetooth or WiFi like in the Series One and Two. This allows you to leave your phone at home on a jog or trip to the store while still allowing you to receive calls. Cellular support comes from the same providers as the iPhone.
  • Access to the full Apple Music library and any Apple Radio station.
  • An improved Siri that can speak for the first time on the watch along with a Siri-focused display that pulls up pertinent information from your calendar.
  • Over 18 hours of battery life.
  • Improved GPS functionality that includes a barometric altimeter.
  • A new line of straps specifically for exercise called Sportloop.
  • The continuation of Apple’s collaboration with Hermès. A new slate gray ceramic watch and new straps have already been confirmed.
  • The Series Three watch is the exact same size as previous models other than a .25 mm increase of the back crystal.
  • A new dual-core processor that Apple says will help the watch run 70% more efficiently.
  • An electronic SIM card that is a fraction of the normal size.
  • A W2 wireless chip has been added to improve connectivity and instead of including an undignified antenna onto the case, the display screen acts as the antenna.

The Apple Watch Series Three will be available for preorder on September 15 and will be released on September 22. The version without cell coverage will cost $329 and the version with it will cost $399. Keep an eye out for more updates on the continually-developing story.

Access to Apple Music’s library of over 40 million songs is now available.
