The IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph aims to become the ultimate on-the-wrist timekeeper with a dedicated lunar calendar system integrated within the subdial of the chronograph minutes and hours counter. As the manufacture’s first attempt at this horological feat, IWC had to develop a new movement specifically for the timepiece: the 89630 caliber. All of this is achieved without losing focus on design, as the piece provides a consistently elegant and bold style, beautifully accompanied by the starry night and lunar phase depiction front and center in the piece.

The timepiece serves as a welcome and anticipated addition to the Da Vinci line of  “pocket watches for the wrist.”  While the steel version appears as a subdued yet noticeably intricate instrument, the gold timepiece stands out. Beyond its aesthetics and engineering the piece has a remarkable life of it’s own, the perpetual calendar promises to remain accurate for the next 577.5 years. Notice the four digit year display in a window at the bottom of the left corner of the timepiece. This indicator accounts for the different lengths of the months as well as leap years, guaranteeing accuracy other than a small adjustment every 100 years.
