Although the American West isn’t considered the capital of watchmaking, the Bay Area serves as a point of reference for Corum’s latest timepiece, the Golden Bridge Stream. A lattice microstructure spans each side of the watch’s automatic movement and evokes the suspension framework of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The art deco–inspired timepiece is the newest version of a 1970s design by master watchmaker Vincent Calabrese. It’s at once a fascinating object and a touchstone of classic watchmaking. The Golden Bridge is known for having a straight and elongated gold baguette movement enclosed in sapphire crystals to provide unfettered views of its mechanism. The Golden Bridge Stream is a reinterpretation of the Calabrese original, updated by a new generation of watchmakers to pay homage to the West Coast landmark.
